Over the past 3 year i've been seeing the attitude to updates of Runescape (http://www.runescape.com/) more and more, and even feel like it myself. Back in say 2006 if you will, when you say there was a system update, people tended to be quite excited and expected some new wonderful update and they were usually quite content with whatever update that JaGeX (http://www.jagex.com/) had released that week...
However, recently i've noticed quite a dramatic change in this, players of Runescape (http://www.coolrunescape.com/) now seem to dread the system updates, banking everything before they happen, with less and less excitement about what could be released and more of an attitude towards the line of: "Oh, what have they ruined this time". Whilst there has been some fairly looked forward too updates recently, they were all... Well, below expectations, to say the least.
Compare some of the updates; from 2006 and such - Barrows (Even today, very popular and good armour), Fight Caves (A real challenge, giving people something over than 99s to aim for), Castle Wars (Popular, always people playing it, generally quite a liked minigame), Fight pits (Same as castle wars really). There was also the quest side of it, whilst recently, the quests have been more 'impressive' *cough wgs* I would have to say the older quests were more... challenging. e.g. Underground pass and Receipt for disaster.
When in comparison to the more recent updates; Dragon claws (Generally disliked, seen as a "noskill" weapon, blamed for "runing pking" quite a lot) Mobolizing armies (Huge wait for this update, for a very small amount of rewards people actually want) PvP worlds (Ruined the prices of a lot of items, lots of bugs at the start) Removal of infinite stock (caused a lot of items to suddenly crash, removing all the "stable" junk). However, the quest side of it has been quite good overall, what with the first grandmaster quest and such.
So anyway, before I type for too long, overall I believe that updates are less looking forward too and it is becoming more of a trend to face palm when you see the system update on your game screen.
You will also note I didn't mention anything about Runescape gold trade (e.g. http://www.coolrunescape.com (http://www.coolrunescape.com/) ) limit / pk removal ect. because I believe they were neither good nor bad updates, ad they were really really needed yet at the same time, no-one really liked them.
